Club Assembly 7/26/10
Due to the lack of a quorum the Rotary Board meeting scheduled for Thursday, July 22, 2010, was rescheduled to Friday, July 23, 2010.
The East Palestine Rotary Club met on Friday, July 23, 2010, at 5:30 o'clock P.M. at Bea’s Insurance, 31 North Market Street, East Palestine, with the following Board members in attendance: Kerri Stewart (President), Traci Thompson (Vice President), Bonnie Davis (Secretary), Endia Wisser (Vocational Service), and Shirley Prater (Club Service). The following Board members were absent: Roger Linsley (Treasurer), Brad Allison (Community Service), Mary Ann Steiner (International Service). Bob White (Foundation Chair) was also absent.
The meeting was called to order by the President and a quorum was established.
Old business:
A general discussion was held with regard to the 2009-2010 Paul Harris Fellow. The exact details of this discussion will be available at a later date due to the fact that the Board would like to keep the Paul Harris Fellow recipient secretive until the same is awarded to the recipient of the Club.
New business:
A motion was made by Shirley Prater, seconded by Traci Thompson and unanimously approved authorizing the Treasurer to write a check to the East Palestine Memorial Public Library in the amount of $500.00, as we had done in previous years, for the purpose of purchasing books for the signature of speakers at our Club meetings to be shelved at the Library for our Literacy Program.
A motion was made by Traci Thompson, seconded by Endia Wisser and unanimously carried for our Club to once again sponsor the mammovan in mid-August. Sponsorship consists of advertising (posting flyers provided by Toni Freer) and spreading the word throughout the town of the date and time.
The President then presented the list of events/activities she proposed that our Club sponsors and/or participates in for the 2010-2011 Rotary year:
We have already sold food and necklaces at the 4th of July festivities in the City Park, sponsored Friday Night at the Movies during the month of July and participated in the American Cancer Society Relay For Life on July 9, 2010. (all of which was voted on before the end of last Rotary year).

After a general discussion a motion to approve the scheduled events/activities was made by Shirley Prater, seconded by Endia Wisser and unanimously approved.
Endia Wisser reported on the Friday Night at the Movies. She has collected $1,734.13 and the cost for the movie rental and rental of the gazebo total $1,850.13. She expects the small shortage between the two (2) amounts to be made up in the sale of concession items the next two (2) Fridays.
Kerri advised that she was just contacted by Tom Brittain of Brittain Motors this date with the following offer with regarding to our youth soccer. Chevrolet is a huge supporter of soccer and they want to donate 2,000 tickets to be sold for $5.00 each for a chance to win a Chevy Equanoz or Malibu or a home entertainment system. This covers five (5) states but one (1) entertainment system will be given locally. Our Club received 100% of the funds from the sale of the tickets. In addition a $500.00 cash donation will be received from Mr. Brittain for the soccer program and Chevrolet will also be donating 10 bags, 10 balls, 100 cones, 100 vests, and 150 t-shirts. The tickets must be sold by November 1, 2010. A motion to accept this offer was made by Traci Thompson, seconded by Shirley Prater and unanimously carried.
Secretary, Bonnie Davis, advised the Board that she had two (2) invoices for dues to be given to the Club Treasurer. One is for Rotary International Semi-Annual Dues which are $25.00 per member, Council on Legislation Levy which is $1.00 per member, Liability Insurance which is $2.06 per member, and Rotarian subscription which is $6.00 per member. The other is for the annual District 6650 Dues which are $30.00 per member ($26.50 for District Administration, $2.00 for District Youth Exchange, $.60 for District Group Study Exchange and $.60 for District Interact).
Shirley Prater noted that last Monday’s attendance was poor. The District Governor visited our Club that Monday and we historically have tried to have 100% attendance.
A motion to adjourn was made by Traci Thompson, seconded by Endia Wisser and unanimously approved.
