This week I offer my tribute actor Carroll O'Connor.
His character, Archie Bunker, proved, for all time, that
ignorance truly is bliss.....................
They pick jurors like your mother 'cause they don't know too much...People like your mother gotta be unpartial 'cause they got no subconceived notions.
It's a proven fact that Capital Punishment is a known detergent to crime.
I got nothin' against mankind. It's people I don't trust.
Look, Archie Bunker ain't no bigot! I'm the first to say- it's ain't your fault you're colored.
Well, ain't you nervous with your mother actin' so crazy. And I don't see why you had to drag me to her doctor.......this groinocologist guy.
What's wrong with this? It looks like representative government to me. Salvatory-Feldman-O'Reilly and Nelson. You got an Eyetalian, a Jew, an Irishman and a regular American. That's what you call a balanced ticket.
Now lemme tell ya about this. You spend time raising money for things like this- you ain't gonna help drop-outs and run-a-ways- you're just gonna make new ones.
It's them liberals, sittin' around dreamin' up causes, a dozen at a clip! Like f'instance-giving the kids free shots for VD. It's positively disgusting! When I was a kid you had to be in the Army to get free shots for VD.
I don't like the idea of givin' blood without knowin' who's on the receivin' end. The difference is- some radical gets shot while he's trying to blow up a building, an' he needs a transfusion, he ain't gonna wind up with any of Archie Bunker's blood in him!
AND ONE OF MY ALL TIME FAVORITES, THIS SCENE WITH SAMMY DAVIS, JR.
Sammy Davis, Jr.: Now listen, if you were prejudiced you might have thought of me as a coon, or a nigger. But you never said that, instead, you came right out clear as a bell and said- colored.
Archie: That's right.
Sammy Davis Jr.: And if you were prejudiced you'd shut your eyes to what's going on in this great country, but not you. You can tell black from white, and I have a feeling you'll always be able to tell black from white. And I know if you were prejudiced you'd go around thinking you're better than anyone else in the world, Archie. But, having spent this wonderful afternoon with you, I can honestly say you've proven to me that you ain't better than anybody
Archie: Can I shake your hand on that? I hope youse all heard that. Comin' from no lesser man than Mr. Wonderful himself. Now that oughtta prove to youse once and for all that I ain't prejudice.
