This is Rotary International

Mission

The main objective of Rotary is service- in the community, in the workplace, and throughout the world. Rotarians build goodwill and peace, provide humanitarian service, and encourage high ethical standards in all vocations. The Rotary motto is "Service Above Self." The world's first service club began with the formation of the Rotary Club in Chicago in 1905.

Membership

Rotarians are professional men and women who work as volunteers to improve the quality of life in the home and world communities. Club membership represents a cross-section of local business and professional leaders. Membership is by invitation only, and is on the basis of one representative of each business and profession. The world's Rotary clubs meet weekly for fellowship and interesting and informative programs dealing with topics of local and global importance. Rotary clubs are non-political, non-religious, and open to all cultures, races and creeds. The real work of Rotary takes place before and after meetings, when Rotarians plan and carry our a remarkable variety of humanitarian and educational service projects that touch people's lives in their local communities and our world community.

Object of Rotary

The object of Rotary is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster:

  1. The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service:
  2. High ethical standards in business and professions; the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations; and the dignity by each Rotarian of his occupation as an opportunity to serve society:
  3. The application of the ideal of service by each Rotarian to his personal business, and community life:
  4. The advancement of international understanding, good will, and peace though a world fellowship of business and professional people united in the ideal of service.

The 4-Way Test

Of the things we think, say or do:

  1. Is it the TRUTH?
  2. Is it FAIR to all concerned?
  3. Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
  4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?

The Avenues of Service

  1. CLUB SERVICE providing service to the Rotary club to enable it to run efficiently in the spirit of fellowship.
  2. VOCATIONAL SERVICE putting high standards of conduct into practice in the business and professional lives of Rotarians.
  3. COMMUNITY SERVICE identifying needs in the Rotary club's community and addressing these needs with service projects.
  4. INTERNATIONAL SERVICE working for international understanding and peace by promoting goodwill between all people.
